Advantages:
The biggest advantage I see is that it reduces the amount of pollutants and effluants from the engine.
Disadvantages:
I see a number of disadvantages of using LPG as fuel.
Firstly, regarding cost effectiveness. Using LPG is cost effective only if you are using domestic cooking LPG in your vehicle. This leads to illegal use of domestic cooking gas in vehicles which is not acceptable.
Secondly regarding engine fuel efficiency. Yes, the engine might run more efficiently using LPG or any other gaseous fuel, but that too will only be possible if the engine is re-tuned for it. The engine comes with a tuning that is optimum for the properties of petrol. SO, if LPG is used directly without adjusting the tuning & valve/ignition timing etc., the efficiency may infact decrease.
Thridly, I personally believe that using LPG in a petrol engine may lead to a shortening of the engine's life. I think so because petrol would be having better cooling and lubrication properties than LPG. An engine that has been designed for the properties of petrol, may not be an optimum for LPG.
I may be wrong. So, I invite all to have a discussion on the above points.
